Cracked Pillars: Finding Grace in Brokenness

By Held by Faith Newsroom

What happens when someone belongs to God but still feels broken?

In this episode of Held by Faith: The Podcast, author and evangelist Mark Winter joins host Wendy Rollin for an honest conversation about faith, forgiveness, emotional healing, and the pressure many Christians feel to appear spiritually strong.

Inspired by his book, If I’m the Temple of God, Why Are My Pillars Cracked?, Mark shares how childhood wounds, anxiety, depression, and feelings of unworthiness affected his life and relationship with God. He explains that our broken places do not disqualify us from God’s love. Instead, God continues working within us, restoring what has been wounded and strengthening what feels weak.

Mark also discusses the difference between conviction and condemnation. Conviction draws us toward repentance and restoration, while condemnation leaves us feeling hopeless and beyond forgiveness.

One of the most powerful moments in the conversation is Mark’s story of reconciling with his father after years of hurt. Only hours later, his father unexpectedly passed away, leaving Mark with a lasting reminder of the importance of forgiveness and not waiting to make things right.

This encouraging conversation offers hope to anyone who feels spiritually weary, emotionally wounded, or ashamed of the cracks in their life. God is not finished with us, and brokenness does not place us beyond His grace or restoration.
