Review by Wendy Rollin

The Special Needs Parent by Joe and Cindi Ferrini is a thoughtful, honest, and encouraging book that comes from decades of lived experience and a journey Joe and Cindi continue to walk today.
What stood out to me most is that they do not try to make the journey of special needs parenting sound easy. They acknowledge the challenges, the exhaustion, the changes a family may face, and the emotions that can come with a life that looks very different from what you once imagined.
One thing I especially liked is how Joe and Cindi reach out directly to the reader throughout the book. There are sections that invite you to add your own story, with questions and space to reflect on your answers and experiences. It makes the book feel personal and interactive rather than something you simply read and put down.
Each chapter left me feeling like I walked away having learned something new and with a better understanding of what special needs families may experience. Joe and Cindi share practical wisdom while also being open about the daily challenges that can come with caring for a loved one with special needs.
I also appreciated the way their faith is woven naturally throughout the book. They continually point readers back to God while still being honest about the difficult parts of the journey. You can tell they understand the people they are writing to because this is a journey they continue to live every day.
I am glad I read this book because it helped me better understand how I can be more supportive of families who have a loved one with special needs. It also gave me a greater understanding of some of the challenges these families face every day—things those of us on the outside may not always see or fully understand.
I believe this book is valuable not only for parents caring for a child or adult child with special needs, but also for grandparents, extended family members, caregivers, church leaders, friends, and anyone who wants to better understand and support special needs families.
Joe and Cindi have taken what they have learned through their own family’s journey and continue to use those experiences to educate, encourage, and help others.
I am very glad I read The Special Needs Parent, and I would absolutely recommend it.
