Can someone love God deeply and still need counseling?
In this episode of Held by Faith: The Podcast, Wendy Rollin speaks with Matt Knabe, MA, LPCC-S, a licensed professional clinical counselor and Director of Operations at Emerge Counseling Ministries.
Matt shares his remarkable journey from touring and working in the music industry to experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks that eventually brought him home to Northeast Ohio. He first entered Emerge as a client seeking help. Years later, after returning to school and becoming a counselor, he now serves others from the same ministry that helped him through one of the darkest periods of his life.
Together, Wendy and Matt address the shame some Christians feel about needing counseling and the mistaken belief that asking for help reflects weak faith. Matt explains that professional counseling does not have to replace prayer, Scripture, pastoral guidance, or trust in God. Instead, it can become one of the tools God uses to help people confront emotional wounds, recognize harmful beliefs, and begin moving toward freedom.
Whether you are struggling with anxiety, grief, trauma, church hurt, or emotional pain—or trying to support someone who is—this conversation offers reassurance that you do not have to face it alone.
