Planting Seeds of Faith Through Children’s Stories

By Held by Faith Newsroom

What if a simple story could help a child recognize God’s presence in an everyday moment?

In this episode of Held by Faith: The Podcast, host Wendy Rollin speaks with children’s author and Willow and Word founder Shannon McClain Linton about her unexpected journey into writing faith-filled books for young readers.

Shannon never planned to become an author. Her journey began when she felt God placing a message on her heart to write a children’s book. Although she did not know what the story would be or how she would bring it to life, she chose to trust His direction. That first step of obedience eventually became A Wink from God.

Through the story of a little boy named Luke and an unexpected visit from a red cardinal, the book encourages children to notice the small blessings that remind us God is near. Shannon describes these moments as “God winks”—ordinary experiences that point us back to His love, care, and presence.

Shannon also shares the heart behind Willow and Word: helping children know Jesus while encouraging families to slow down and spend meaningful time together. Her books give parents and grandparents a gentle way to begin conversations about prayer, faith, courage, obedience, and God’s love.

Her message extends beyond children’s books. It is also a reminder that God does not require perfection before calling someone to serve. He asks for a willing heart.
